The loss of another special athlete loved by his teammates, fans, and family has struck us all out of nowhere. Star Wide Receiver Demaryius Thomas has passed away in his Georgia home as news broke yesterday morning. Reports via ESPN reveal that his loss of life was caused by what a close relative believe to be “seizure related”. Shaken by the unfortunate truth, many of his beloved teammates took to social media to express their grief and condolences.

“DT was a better person than he was a player, and he was a Hall of Fame player. That tells you how good of a person he was”. Former Teammate Peyton Manning proclaimed on who Thomas was as human being and not just a remarkable football player that helped win Super Bowl 50 in 2016. “Woke up and saw the really devastating news about my teammate and friend” says Former Quarterback Tim Tebow as the world continues to mourn for Demaryius and his family. From Demarcus Ware to Bennie Fowler, teammates from every team he suited up for howls in sorrow including “The Goat”. “I’m so sad to wake up this morning to hear about the passing of my friend..We were all blessed with his humility and positive spirit, and we will all miss him. RIP”

One of the best Wide Receivers hailing out of Georgia Tech since Calvin Johnson, “DT” took the league by storm as a first round draft pick in 2010. After an eight year career with the Denver Broncos and a few stints with The Houston Texans, New York Jets and New England Patriots , Thomas announced his retirement earlier this year. He played 10 seasons overall finishing with 724 catches for 9,763 yards along with 63 touchdowns. “DT was the complete package as a wide receiver, growing into one of the very best at his position.” Broncos president of football operations John Elway said in a statement announcing the news.

Famously recognized also for his mothers commuted sentence back in 2015 by then President Barack Obama. Bound in prison for drug charges when Thomas was 11 years old, Katina Smith finally got to see her son play for the first time in a Broncos playoff win over the Pittsburgh Steelers the following year of her release. Manning gave the game ball to No. 88 to give to his mother afterwards. That goes to show you just how impactful Demaryius Thomas was to the greatest of his peers, even in the NFL.
