The Salt Lake City Council voted Tuesday night to extend Mayor Erin Mendenhall's emergency order, requiring masks for 30 more days in the SLC School District.

The council will reconsider the order at their October 12th meeting. Council members passed the extension on a 6-1 vote. The mandate is for K-12 students.

In a press conference on Monday Mendenhall said, "Today, I am encouraged to report that our school children in the Salt Lake City School District appear to be healthier and better able to stay in in-person learning than any other kid in Salt Lake County."

Dr. Angela Dunn shows the Salt Lake City School District has the lowest rate of COVID-19 cases since the first day of school among the county's five school districts.
