Boxing to MMA
Two time Olympic boxing gold medalist Claressa Shields will make her MMA debut on June 10th at PFL. She will share the octagon with Brittney Elkin in a lightweight bout. The 26 year old has held multiple championships in three weight classes, she has held the undisputed light middleweight title since March 2021. Shields is the only boxer in history, female or male to hold all four major world titles in boxing, WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO simultaneously in two weight classes.
First women to win lineal championships in two weight classes. Currently holds the record for becoming a two and three weight champion in the fewest professional fights. Shields took gold medals at the 2012 London games as well as the 2016 Rio De Janeiro.
In November of 2020 news broke out that Shields had signed a three fight contract with PFL. She spoke about the UFC contacting her for a potential bout against two division champion Amanda Nunes, but she thought that was crazy, especially for her MMA debut.
Since the announcement of her jump to MMA, she has started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is training alongside UFC fighter Holly Holm. Shields holds a perfect boxing record of 11-0, can she make a successful debut in MMA? An athlete of her caliber can succeed, she stays focused and hungry, and we could potentially witness a new star be born in MMA on June 10th.
