The Trilogy
It’s now official as the third fight between Dustin Poirier vs. Connor McGregor will take place on July 10th at UFC 264 in Las Vegas at full capacity. McGregor is the favorite heading into the fight.
The first fight took place at UFC 178 on September 27, 2014. Early spin kicks from McGregor kept Dustin on his toes, McGregor dropped him with a punch and pouncing on him for more punches to have the fight stopped. It only lasted one minute and 46 seconds. With the victory McGregor moved to 4-0 in the UFC.
The rematch came at UFC 257 as the headlining bout. Poirier was coming off a unanimous decision victory over Dan Hooker. McGregor was also coming off a first round TKO victory Donald Cerrone. Both coming off huge victories meant it was time for rematch and this time around Poirier was the one getting his hand raised. McGregor was dropped and TKO’d in the second round, first time he had ever been knocked out. Leg kicks were a huge factor for Dustin’s victory. After the victory everyone expected there to be a third fight, after they announced Khabib had retired, Charles Oliveira vs. Michael Chandler were going to fight for the 155 pound belt. Just like that everyone knew what was coming, Dana White announced the fight would take place at UFC 264.
There was a little back and forth between Dustin and Connor on social media something we didn’t see in the second fight, nice guy McGregor has left the building and the trash talking Mystic Mac has entered. McGregor predicts he will win the trilogy fight via front kick to the nose in round 4, “ His nose needs straightenin and I’m rhinoplasty”. With fans at full capacity expect fireworks!
