UFC 262
UFC 262 came and went with an impressive card. Dariush vs Ferguson showed us a lot, where does Tony go now with 3 straight losses, at one point went on a 12 fight win streak to 3 losses in a little over a year. Beneil applied the pressure and Tony couldn’t stop the takedowns, either the fight against Justin Gaethje took a big toll on Tony or father time has caught up to him. Someone with a unique and crazy style like Ferguson probably didn’t work too much on the fundamentals as we are seeing that his ground game is not on the level of the top contenders. Heading into the fight Tony was ranked the number 5 in the lightweight division and Beneil was ranked 9. This is a big win for Beneil now making it 7 straight wins. After his last fight he wanted a top 5 fighter and got it in Ferguson, now his stock is up the roof and will be moving up in the rankings. As for Tony his name still holds value but his career is on the decline, and perhaps he gets the Cerrone treatment and gets one last do or die fight, and if this was it the man left his mark as The Ultimate Fighter 13 winner back in 2011, had a 12 fight win streak from 2013 to 2019, held the interim UFC lightweight belt from 2017 to 2018, so he has secured his spot as an all time great in the promotion.
Do Bronx got the KO victory over Chandler in the second round after surviving the early onslaught of round one. In only Chandlers second fight in the promotion he was fighting for the belt and looked great in the first round applying the pressure and even landing some bombs that looked like it was all over for Charles. Do Bronx captures the gold and at only 31 has a long road ahead of him. Since making his debut back in 2010, he’s had a bumpy road but coming into this fight he was on a 6 fight win streak. The gold is headed back to Brazil and now he awaits the winner of the trilogy between Poirier and McGregor. As for Chandler he said he will be heading back to the gym and said he would be champion by the end of his UFC career, so perhaps Chandler gets the loser of the trilogy or even Justin Gaethje. This division is stacked and now with Beneil in the mix as well the UFC has some good matchups moving forward. Charles Oliveira took home the belt and an extra 75k for Performance Of The Night, joining him was Christos Giagos. Fight of the night bonus went to Edson Barboza and Shane Burgos for there opening fight of the UFC 262 ppv card.
