Lori Lightfoot asks Biden for help

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot asks Biden on tarmac for more help to combat gun violence after Democrat run city saw 100 shot and 19 killed over July 4 weekend after a year of public support for defunding the police.

The Chicago mayor told local reporters ahead of the president’s trip she planned to ask him to send in more federal aid to Chicago to combat ongoing gun violence.

July 4th weekend saw the deadliest and most violent weekend this year in Chicago, more than 100 people were shot, among the wounded were at least 13 children and two Chicago police supervisors.

The Chicago Sun Times reported 2,019 people have been shot in Chicago this year, an increase of 13 percent from last year.

Biden reiterated his commitment to working with the mayor and leaders in Chicago in the fight against gun violence and conveyed that the Department of Justice would soon be in touch about the strike force announced just a few weeks ago that will be working with cities like Chicago.

Just last year Mayor Lightfoot denied help from former President Trump, who was planning on sending 150 federal agents to Chicago to help control the violence, Lightfoot said it would do more harm than good. So Lightfoot’s solution at the time was three pages of help from the federal government, she said she would welcome, “common sense gun reform”, and more federal grants for anti violence outreach programs as well as investments in Chicago’s south and west side neighborhoods.

Biden’s proposed Strike Force seems to be agents hitting violent cities across the nation, pretty much the same exact idea former President Trump had intended except now its a Democrat proposing it. What’s the solution to so much crime in these cities, Chicago has become the most violent city in the United States, what will this Strike Force actually accomplish or will it just make things worse.
