The Tampa Bay Lightning are the 2021 Stanley Cup Champions after defeating the Montreal Canadiens in 5 games. This makes it back to back Stanley Cups for Tampa who now has a total of 3 titles to their name since they were founded in 1992. There first came back in 2004 and there second was just last year. The Lightning also become the ninth franchise in NHL history to win back to back Stanley Cups.

Rookie forward Ross Colton scored the only goal of game 5 in the second period. This marked Colton’s fourth goal of the post season and the first of the Stanley Cup Final. Tampa goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped all 22 shots he faced in game 5. Vasilevskiy took home the Conn Smythe Trophy making him the first goalie to win the award since Jonathan Quick back in 2012.

As for the Canadiens this now marks 28 years since they’ve hoisted the Stanley Cup Trophy in 1993, and no Canadian team has won a title since. The Canadiens have been the first team from the north of the border in 10 years to reach the Finals and the drought continues.
